Smartphones are the new Sharpies; selfies are the new autographs.
 
It's not just athletes posing for pictures with their teammates, either.
 
Fans attending the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics are handing their cell phones to their heroes after competitions and asking them to snap a selfie while they go bananas in the background.

It's getting rarer and rarer to see kids pushing pen and paper onto the athletes for their John Hancock. 
 
But fans of all ages are gladly handing over their pricey phones for a quick pose.
