When I place that medal in her hands, I'll be crying.

Mom provided a powerful motivating influence for American long jumper Jeff Henderson.

He can't wait to get home with that gold medal from the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, the one he captured on his final attempt Saturday night.

The 27-year-old Henderson said his mother suffers from Alzheimer's disease and is bed-ridden.

"This is for her," Henderson said. "When I place that medal in her hands, I'll be crying."
