STONEHAM, Quebec (AP) — Finland's Roope Tonteri and Canada's Spencer O'Brien won gold medals in slope style events at the FIS Snowboarding World Championships on Friday.
Canada's Mark McMorris finished second behind Tonteri in the men's competition. Finland's Janne Korpi was third.
Switzerland's Sina Candrian and Australia's Torah Bright finished second and third in the women's competition.
The slope style event is a new addition to the Winter Olympics, beginning with the 2014 Sochi Games.
The snowboarding championships are taking place at the Stoneham Mountain Resort north of Quebec City. The championships will finish Jan. 26-27.
