The United States women's gymnastics team grabbed hold of the team final right from the start, and they never let go.

With three incredible vaults to open the evening, Jordyn Wieber, Gabby Douglas and McKayla Maroney set a relentless pace that the Russians simply couldn't match.

The Americans finished with a score of 183.596. Russia won silver with 178.530 and Romania wrapped up the bronze with 176.414. It's the first Olympic gold for the American women since 1996.

Kyla Ross and Alexandra Raisman rounded out the five competitors for the United States, and the group watched Raisman's final score on the floor hit the board, then erupted in celebration.
