UN health agency rejects call to postpone Rio Olympics

BERLIN (AP) — The World Health Organization on Saturday rejected a call from 150 health experts to consider postponing or moving the Rio Summer Olympics due to the Zika virus in hard-hit Brazil, arguing that the shift would make no significant difference to the spread of the virus.

The U.N. health agency, which declared the spread of Zika in the Americas a global emergency in February, said in a statement there is "no public health justification" for postponing or canceling the 2016 games, which run from Aug. 5-21.

Paralympics 100 days away; city planning ticket give-away

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Tickets sales for the Paralympic Games are lagging, but they are getting a big boost from an unexpected source — the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Philip Craven, the head of the International Paralympic Committee , told The Associated Press in an interview that 33 percent of 2.5 million tickets had been sold, compared to 67 percent of 6 million Olympic tickets.

Velodrome: Most delayed Rio Olympic venue hits another snag

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The Rio de Janeiro Olympic venue facing the most serious construction delay has hit another snag, with City Hall saying it is changing contractors for the track cycling velodrome.

In a statement, the city said Monday it rescinded the contract of the principal builder and had authorized a subcontractor to take over.
