RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) -- An ailing Jenn Suhr was still reeling a day after failing to defend her medal in the pole vault.

The 2012 gold medalist has been plagued with a respiratory infection her entire time in Rio, and it cost her a chance to defend her title. She was vomiting blood on Friday and said she feared the infection had spread to her lungs.

She posted a lengthy statement on Saturday explaining she is "sicker than I have ever been" while thanking her fans. But she also apologized for letting them down.
