WEMBLEY, England (AP) — The Americans lead Japan 1-0 after 30 minutes in the women's gold medal soccer game on Carli Lloyd's header in the eighth minute. The U.S. almost doubled the lead in the 28th minute when Azusa Iwashimizu headed the ball into her own post. But it caromed off, and play continued. Japan's two best chances came 10 minutes earlier. Nahomi Kawasumi's shot in the 17th minute was going wide, but Christie Rampone put a foot on it anyway and the ball deflected right back to U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo. A minute later, Solo punched Yuki Ogimi's header from close range into the crossbar. The ball went to Rachel Buehler, whose clearance attempt went right back to Ogimi. She took another shot from close range, only to see it sky over the crossbar.
