Britain's military is getting a donation to recognize what it's done to help with security at the Olympics.

The 2.5 million pounds ($3.9 million) is coming from none other than G4S, the private security contractor that failed to deliver the staff it promised to secure games venues.

Because of that shortfall, the military had to step in at the last minute, scrambling to deploy some 3,500 more soldiers than originally planned.

The Ministry of Defense welcomes the donation, saying the funds will go to the armed forces community and welfare organizations. G4S will end up taking a loss of between 35 and 50 million (78 million dollars) pounds on the Olympic contract, spokesman Adam Mynott says.
