In rowing the work isn't over for the athletes when they cross the finish line after up to seven minutes of pain.

At a recent pre-Olympic regatta in Switzerland, it was humbling to see the victorious U.S. women's eight team get back in their boat after collecting their gold medals.

Muscles aching, they rowed back down the race course, then carried the boat on their shoulders to a rack where they stripped the riggers. Only after they placed the shell on a trailer was the job done.

That kind of work ethic explains why rowers "make great employees" when they're done competing, says U.S. women's coach Tom Terhaar.

"They are just good team people," he says. "And good people people."
