When these Olympics end, the Olympic Channel begins.
The International Olympic Committee's digital television channel goes live on Sunday, the final day of the Rio Games. It will provide a mix of live sports coverage, historic Olympic footage from the IOC's archives, and news programming and highlights.
IOC President Thomas Bach wanted the channel and it was approved by the full group nearly two years ago. It will not cover the Olympics themselves, which are aired by rights-holding broadcasters around the world.
It's estimated that the channel will cost the IOC about $600 million to operate through 2023, and the goal is for it to break even by 2026.
