The Rio Games have been criticized for a perceived lack of organization, and Mario Andrada, chief spokesman for the Rio 2016 organizing committee, may have offered the quote of the Olympics when he answered questions about the murky green diving pool that caused a practice session to be canceled on Friday.

"Chemistry is not an exact science," Andrada said.

Officials maintain the water poses no health risks to the athletes and they acknowledged a few mistakes were made in an effort to fix it. But Team USA diver Abby Johnston was among the many clamoring for a cleanup.

One of America's foremost chemists, Mr. Walter White, may disagree with Andrada's characterization of chemistry.
