What took so long to give Michael Phelps and the rest of the U.S. 4x100 medley relay their gold medals?
Cody Miller, who swam the breastroke leg, said he was feeling lightheaded after the race. He needed a little time to recover.
Meanwhile, the crowd got restless. While music blared through the speakers and some fans waved flags and danced, they could only wait so long. With no explanation for the long wait, they started to boo.
Finally, the relay swimmers emerged. Michael Phelps, Miller, Nathan Adrian and Ryan Murphy got gold draped around their necks. The delay was soon forgotten. As a misty-eyed Phelps took a flag from his family, the crowd roared and watched him take his victory lap around the pool.
