The Rio Games are taking their commitment to being "The Green Olympics" a little too far.
One day after the diving pool at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Center turned from a clean blue to a murky green, there were signs that the water polo pool right next to it was going green as well.
Organizers said on Tuesday that the diving pool _ which looked more like the Chicago River on St. Patrick's Day _ would be back to its original aquatic blue once the temperatures cooled and the wind picked back on Wednesday. But it was still as green as Robin Hood's tights, which Rio spokesman Mario Andrada said was caused "by a proliferation of algae."
The water polo pool wasn't as green as its neighbor, looking more like the teal of the Miami Dolphins jersey than Kermit the Frog's belly. And organizers say there are no health issues posed to the athletes in either pool.
But if the waters continue to cloud in the polo pool, the competition could be affected. Referees could have a more difficult time watching the action underwater, which could lead to more physical play.
