American decathlete Ashton Eaton has two rooting interests in the 2016 Olympics. He wants to win the track and field event but he's also cheering on his wife, who is competing for Canada.
Eaton's decision to wear a Canada hat to the track to support Brianne Theisen Eaton set off an uproar on social media as people criticized his apparel choice as he competes for the U.S. team.
Eaton found the criticisim ridiculous. To him, it's about supporting his wife after she endured grueling training in preparation for the sport's biggest stage. Theisen Eaton won a bronze Saturday in heptathlon.
Eaton won gold in London in 2012 in decathlon, which involves 10 running, jumping and throwing events such as sprints, javelin and long jump. The Rio competition occurs this week.
