Maartje Paumen is at it again for the Netherlands.
The top Olympic scorer ever missed the Champions Trophy final in June with a foot injury, and the Dutch lost to Argentina. She was back in her regular form on Sunday, scoring two goals in a 5-0 victory over Spain in her team’s Olympic opener.
Paumen extended her career Olympic scoring tally to 16. She scored 11 goals at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, then scored three more in London in 2012 before scoring two on penalty corners against the Spaniards.
Scoring goals is still fun for the 30-year-old Paumen, who is trying to lead the No. 1-ranked Dutch to a third straight gold medal.
"I'm just an emotional and passionate player,” she said. “So I'm always happy when I'm scoring a goal, and when the team scores a goal. You saw it on the field with all of the five goals we celebrated together. We are really happy for each other. It's cool."
