Lin Dan's footwear wasn't subtle Thursday.
The reigning Olympic men's badminton champion from China was wearing gold-trimmed shoes during his first group match Thursday, and they worked. He rolled past Austria's David Obernosterer 21-5, 21-11.
"They are very shiny and attractive and people like looking at them," Lin said. "That's why I wear them."
He's the heavy favorite to add another gold medal to match the kicks, too. But he said he's not letting expectations faze him.
"I still feel like I need to get into the zone to get properly prepared," Lin said. "At every Olympic Games anything can happen that nobody can predict."
